Kwawachee Behavioral Health & Wellness Hosts May Mental Health Month Prevention Fair

April 20, 2026

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Kwawachee Behavioral Health & Wellness invites the community to a special evening focused on connection, culture, and practical tools for well-being. The May Mental Health Month Prevention Fair will take place on Friday, May 15, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Winner’s Gym (810 E Harrison St, Tacoma, WA 98404).

This free, family-friendly event brings together traditional knowledge and modern wellness practices to support mental health in a welcoming, community-centered space. Attendees can enjoy a traditional meal featuring bison and salmon burgers, offering nourishment that reflects cultural values and connection to the land.

Throughout the evening, participants will have the opportunity to explore hands-on activities designed to reduce stress and promote balance. One highlight is the Mystery Scent Challenge, where guests can engage their senses using scents like cedar and sweetgrass—tools often used in traditional practices to help “reset” the nervous system and encourage calm.

The fair also offers interactive learning experiences, including:

  • Creating your own traditional tea blend
  • Customizing personal wellness gear
  • Participating in wellness activities for all ages
  • Learning grounding techniques to manage moments of high stress and anxiety, including the use of temperature-based strategies

In addition to these activities, attendees can enter to win door prizes, including tickets to a Rainiers baseball game.

This event is an opportunity to come together as a community, strengthen cultural connections, and learn practical ways to support mental health and resilience in everyday life.
